Should Edit+ users be able to select image varieties?

(Charlotte Westney) #1

Hi everyone,

If a user is in Edit+, and uses the Image button on the WYSIWYG to select an image, should they be able to select a variety of that image?

If I try it, firstly I have to hit the 'refresh assets' button to see the varieties, and then when I do see them and select one, I get an error that says:

366114%3Av3 is not a valid URL.

Which looks like the : has got encoded to %3A, so the url I need (366144:v3) has become corrupted (366144%3Av3)

However, if I just select the normal image, and then append ':v3' to the url field, I get the variety I want in the body content.

So, is this something that I should report as a bug with Edit+, or was it never intended for authors in Edit+ to select image varieties (and if not, why not, because it would be really useful!).

Thanks for your thoughts! Charlie.

Interesting, sounds like a potential bug to me, but better get one of the Edit+ guys to answer. What version of Matrix and version of Edit+ was this on?

Hi Bart,

This is Matrix 4.14.3 and EES 1.4.2 with Edit+

I can get around it by asking authors to add ':v3' to the url field, which will be ok for some authors, but others... well, you know authors! Thanks,

Chalrie.

Selection of image varieties (apart from the workaround that you have suggested) is currently not supported, primarily for the reason that Edit+ hasn't been written to support shadow assets in general yet, and image varieties fall into this category.

We have this noted down in our Squizmap idea list for EES/Edit+ (https://squizmap.squiz.net/ees/3180) but my original belief was that it would most likely would require Matrix changes as well as Edit+ ones to make it work properly, so I am unsure as to a potential release date.

Hey Charlie

We're hoping to have variety selection available by the end of the year in the next 1 or 2 quarterly releases. As you mentioned there is a manual workaround for now:

  Manual Workaround

  1. After parent image has been inserted, left click on the image to get access to inline toolbar popup
  2. Select the image icon to see image properties
  3. Append the asset ID with colon and version number e.d. XXXX:vX
  4. Press update, the image should update in the preview window and in the content
