Site asset in easy edit

(Chris Horikx) #1

Hi Guys,

I like putting a bunch of global preferences onto my site metadata schema so that I can call globals_site_metadata from anywhere.

The only downside to this is that I've found that the site asset is unreachable by easy edit! If I visit site.com/_edit it will redirect to the index page (site.com/home/_edit)

site.com/_edit?limbo_assetid=111111 brings me to a blank page with the limbo assetid changed to the index page again.

Has anyone here had the same issue?

Is there any way around this issue?

Chris

I don't know of the specific reasons why it was made this way, probably so that you would always get to the homepage standard page asset to edit that when you wanted to edit the contents of the homepage.

There is an idea in Squizmap at the moment to allow editing of the site asset though which will hopefully come out in 5.3.

Alternatively you could edit your global settings on the the /home asset and then reference those metadata values from the site asset's metadata using %globals_site_index_id^as_asset:asset_metadata_foo%.

The only real problem this causes for us, is the inability for Edit+ users to change the order of linked children (and therefore, the order of items in the menu).

Is there a workaround for this?

Not that I know of, you would have to create a custom Edit+ plugin to manage it I think.

Thanks Bart,

That solution escaped me. I'll give it a try
