Squiz user group in Melbourne

(Pomster09) #1

I've had this chat with so many people now where the topic has been around setting up a Squiz user group in Melbourne.

I'd like to float the idea here and see what your thoughts are.

I'm thinking interested parties could catch up (in a pub) somewhere in the city, say every two months. Maybe a couple of people presenting for 10-15 minutes each, followed by a small panel of people to answer questions. The event could be an hour or so long and be followed by a bit of networking.

If anyone has been along to a Melbourne Geek Night (next meet up for them is at Loop bar on Thursday 21 November), or the CollabMelb group meeting then you'll be familiar with the format.

Thoughts?

I've sent this around to our office to see if anyone's interested.

Let us know if you do set anything up.

Cheers,

I'd love to know if such a group already exists in London or if anyone is thinking of starting one?

(Aleks Bochniak) #8

I know of several people in London who would be interested in coming to one.

Great! Lets see who else posts up here for London. I might have an idea for a venue... let me make some enquiries.

Didn't Squiz use to organise something in London? Then it has gone bit quite.

Love to network and drink with some of these University developers, web managers, and catchup with some of the cool people I only see once a year like Aleks more regularly :)

I propose one in Sydney at lunch time!

(Tsun) #12

I'd be interested and I am in Melbourne. I'm sure some of the guys here would go down - I'll just mention there's beer.

(Tim Davison) #13

I'd be interested.

An ancient topic which Im sure pops up often and disappears but am re-floating the idea. Considering setting up a Squiz IT/Matrix Meetup in the Squiz Melbourne Office. Going back to Wardy's original comments waaaay back, a structured session, 2-3 speakers 15 minutes each, open session for 10 minutes beer and pizza afterwards and networking, whether they be Matrix or just technology. Gauge popularity and worthiness of the first session (If I get it up and running) but looking at a bi-monthly meet up.

May need assistance in setting up but would like to know if there's any serious interest out there... Can get in touch with me direct.
