Title of page in design or in content

(Steve Brown) #1

Hi all,

We've always had our page name (ie the text in the h1 tag at the top of an article/page) rendered automatically by the design file ( ie <h1>%asset_name%<h1>) rather that have the publisher enter it themselves. There have been some benefits to that - we didnt want people going in and updating the h1 tag and forgetting to rename the asset for example. There were also some disadvantages - publishers had to start at the h2 level and naturally wanted to add the heading to a new page as they start creating it.

As a bit of a straw poll, I thought I'd ask how everyone else was doing it - and any pros/cons of their approach.

Thanks,

Steve.

We do nearly all ours in either the Design file or Paint Layout, not on the content page.

It stops authors from forgetting, using an H2, using just Bold, using ALL CAPITALS, using strange colours etc. It also makes them give the pages sensible names, because they can see it clearly at the top of page when they preview it.

It depends how many authors you have, and how much you trust them to follow style guides!
