User groups and users outside of user folder?

Hi there, I support multiple websites, and one of our websites have registered users. The people who manage this website want to be able to monitor these users/basic admin stuff; but we don't want to give them permissions to read/write/admin in the users folder because of privacy concerns.

I'm wondering what the implications are of having users (registered users of our website, not simple edit or backend users), organised in a folder outside of the user folder?

It shouldn't matter. The Users folder is just a handy place to store Users, it isn't required.

I would put them in a User Group though, just for ease of use.

As nic says, no issues. If you have an account manager page setup for instance, new user assets are linked solely under that asset until they've verified their email address.

If you have privacy concerns though I don't see how not giving them to the user folder helps - if they have permission to administer/monitor users then they can see their details/metadata (minus passwords).
