Versioning of Manuals

(Mpettitt) #1

Please can Squiz provide version information in the manuals. This is a really basic feature that shouldn't be hard to add or maintain, but makes the manuals much more useful for people who actually want to use the system they have installed, not update a test site every 2 weeks.

See Drupal (every page has a Drupal Version section on the right hand column, telling you which version it applies to), Joomla (separate 1.5, 2.5 and 3.0 documentation) or even things like the Android API (which has an "Added in API level" section on every function), all of which are comparable in scale to or larger than Squiz Matrix.

Ideally, I'd be able to view manuals for a given version, but even putting an "added in 4.8.5" notice on functions or assets would help massively, especially with things like the JS API, which has had quite a lot of changes between versions, but also where new fields have been added to asset screens.

I wholeheartedly concur; it's pretty frustrating.

I also wholeheartedly agree about this. I put in a suggestion on the Manuals site a while back. I have been using some of the Web Services API's extensively, so it is hard to know what features were added in what version.

Thanks guys for your feedback. This is something we've had brought up quite a bit recently, so it's obviously in demand. I will have a look and see what options are available and what we might do for this.

Your suggestion form has not been forgotten, Nic. I was actually looking at it this past week and waiting to try and get some possible solutions before contacting you. Will keep in touch.

I'd just like to chime in and concur, it's kinda frustrating, especially as we're infrequent upgraders here.
