Web discussion forum integration into Matrix

I'm currently looking into the options available within Matrix for adding a web forum functionality for a new site project within our Matrix system.

Does anybody have recommendations on something close to a native method for building a web forum? 

My current feeling is that it may be a matter of using the Matrix Remote Content functionality and embedding an externally hosted web forum into the site. This brings some concerns regarding user authentication and experience, but it may be the only option. 

To do this I was initially feeling something like a MyBB forum or perhaps using something with more Matrix support, like an IPS forum app?

Any advice or ideas would be appreciated

I don't have all the detail on implementation but I know we've done a few projects for clients integrating https://www.discourse.org/using the REST APIs to introduce social features (commenting, favouriting etc) into content on pages served from Matrix. Might be worth looking at.

The remote content asset does allow you to very easily proxy part of a web page but for true integration you are going to have to dig a little deeper into other asset types (web services, oAuth etc).
