Web path preference of search results

Hi, 

I am moving a bunch of assets to a new location, to simplify the move I am just creating links so the assets can be tested prior to cut-over. However by doing this when these assets are returned in the search the 'new' web path comes up for the link. How can I avoid this? The new path is not included in the search root nodes as well.

If an asset is linked in multiple places, Matrix will use the shorter URL. I assume the one that is being printed is shorter?
