When to apply alias recommendations?

At the fear of sounding stupid,

One of the steps in the install process, gives you the suggested alias' for apache.

Now I know what they are and how to apply them, but am I right in assuming that you wait till the end of the install process before you apply them, and restart apache?

I know the message reads "install can continue without", but why should it?

And if it can continue without them, why arent they displayed in a screen at the end of the install as a "now do this" notification?

It all depends on how you alias matrix. If your installer is under the same web path as the installation of matrix, then restarting apache with the aliases before install is finished will mean the installer won't be accessible. However, if your installer is in a separate web path, then it's fine to restart apache.

I will change the final screen to add a reminder message saying that apache should be restart if you installed using aliases.

Thanks very much for the support. You guys are great!
In my situation, I had placed the installer in the web path, and I waited till the install finished. It worked a treat… I am now figuring out how to set up my first Web site under MySourceMatrix!!!

Cool…

Hello,

I am running into a pickle when trying to install MSM. I get the the screen where it tells me what aliases to put in, then click proceed and I get a blank screen.

I am running Apache 2 and PHP 5 on a localhost and am fresh out of Ideas.

I have the installer as Http://localhost/install/ and MSM at Http://localhost/install/.

Thanks,

Niles

(P.S. Invision Power Board 2 is out and is great!)

Its also no longer free, which is why we haven't upgraded. But that's another discussion. The answer to your question will have to wait until Monday when Marcus gets into work.

I'm not sure what the problem with the installer may be as I haven't actually checked, but just a heads-up that we don't officially support MySource Matrix on an installation running PHP 5 - I'm not sure whether this is making the installer unhappy as well.

It's quite possible, as the installer instantiates stuff from Matrix which may cause the problems. You'll have to downgrade to php4

Thats the thing… I upgraded to PHP 5 because I couldnt get it to work on PHP 4.

Matrix only works on PHP 4.3.2 or higher, not including PHP5. If you're having problems installing on PHP4, we'll need to deal with those seperately.
