Why can only type one letter in text boxes...?

I'm experiencing a really weird problem and was wondering if anyone else has had the same issue (and has a solution)?

I've got a brand new Macbook Pro which runs safari v6.0.5 and have installed Java 7, as I use the Squiz Matrix (v4.10.2) Admin interface (virtual). I've modified the security settings in Preferences so that Javascript is enabled, I've ticked the allow Java box, I've unticked the block pop-ups box and I've allowed cookies. Yet when I try to edit anything, Squiz Matrix will only let me type one letter into the box. However, it will let me cut and paste into the text fields, which is pretty impractical.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Java a couple of times and the same thing keeps happening. It's driving me nuts! Does anyone have a solution to this?

Hi DMorton, there's an ongoing known issue with Java in Mac OS X (I believe since 10.6.8, or 10.7). Safari won't work and Chrome has no Java support, but the good news is you should be able to get everything working in Firefox without any trouble.

Yeah, java and Safari don't place nice together anymore. It is actually a java bug that is causing this, and Squiz has filed a bug report, but who knows when it will get fixed on the Oracle/Apple side.

We are already working on a Javascript version of asset map.

It does exactly same thing as current Java based assetmap and look similar. It should resolve your problem once it's released.

Thanks heaps!

I installed Firefox and it's working perfectly.  :D  Glad to know it's just a bug and not me!

Looks like this is fixed for me. Using OSX Mavericks and the newest version of Java. :)
